I’d come from New York on three planes and one cab. It had been a long journey to get to a tiny fisherman’s village about three hours south of Belize City. But as I unloaded onto the sandy paths of Belizean Dreams Resort, any travel fatigue I might have been experiencing quickly melted away, and it wasn’t because of the heat. Warm turquoise waters, white sands, and rainbow-colored buildings welcome you to the tropical Belizean paradise that is Belizean Dream.
Where: The Belizean Dreams Resort in Belize
Exactly: Located on the white sand roads of Hopkins Village. After arriving in Belize International Airport, hop aboard one of the smallest planes I have ever taken to Dangriga. The plane ride is so short, I even had service on my phone the whole time we were flying. Once arriving in Dangriga take a 45 minute cab ride to your Belizean Dream vacation, literally a dream! Check in to Belizean Dreams resort, and be greeted with the most delicious specialty cocktail or mocktail.
The Rooms: Upon opening the door to my room it was love at first sight. Complete with a coffee machine, filtered water jug, king sized bed, and porch. What more could you need? Oh, that’s right a robe. They’ve got that covered. Each room has its own entrance, like a private villa. No long hotel hallways here. Our Rooms had views of the Caribbean Sea and were just a few steps to the beach. My heart nearly melted at the site of it the next morning. To best enjoy these views, I highly advise you to sip your morning coffee on your porch and definitely capitalize on having one as much as possible! Take in at least one sunrise, watching the sun peek over the blue horizon and light up the world, and also make sure to watch a sunset (the sky turns all sorts of magical colors).
One word: expansive. Belizean Dreams Resort is a sprawling beach-front property at the far north end of the tiny village of Hopkins. It consists of freestanding villas arranged around one central pool. The main gathering space is a chic poolside tiki Bar. The rest of the grounds are perfectly manicured greenery, lush with towering palm trees and aromatic flowers growing on every corner.
The Food: The Woven Palms Restaurant at Belizean Dreams has an incredibly fresh fusion of Belizean and international fare. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, this is a one-stop shop for mouth-watering food with a Caribbean twist all set in the open air.
The Activities: It’s impossible to be bored here (not that I tried). This place is a mecca for outdoor lovers. Pick from jungle adventures, visiting the jaguar preserve, and canoeing and hiking. Although I didn’t get to experience it, I had a ton of people recommend the Cave & Jungle Adventure! For a full list of adventures offered, you can view here. We opted to go on the Mayan Ruins tour of Xunantunich. The tour was completely coordinated for us, with an informative local tour guide, snacks and lunch with the locals. Xunantunich, needless to say, was breathtaking, and the view from the top of El Castillo was spectacularly scenic, with the hilltop ruins giving way to thousands of acres of green space with the mountains of Guatemala visible in the distance.
I also recommend dedicating at least one day to staying on the grounds and enjoying the beach. You can soak up the sun and indulge in being lazy (nothing wrong with that, believe me) or you can go all out and take advantage of the inclusive watersports the resort offers – swimming, snorkeling, paddle boarding, kayaking, parasailing, fishing, sail boating – the list goes on.
The food, service, and adventures at the Belizean Dreams Resort is on a different level than that of other all-inclusives I have experienced in Mexico and the Caribbean (which if you ask me makes all the difference in a vacation!), and the gorgeous facilities, spacious suites, and world-class service make this resort the ideal place for couples, families or groups of friends. It’s an ideal place to plan an event or celebration and the perfect base camp for a family or group trip.
