Located on the magical black sands of Keramas Beach, The Komaneka Keramas is the perfect luxury accommodation to those seeking ultimate privacy and seclusion. With only private pool villas, all with unobstructed views of the Indian ocean, there’s really nothing else like it. There are several Komaneka properties and they are all family owned resorts that were founded, designed, and are run by a young couple from Ubud, Koman Wahyu Suteja and his wife, MansriTrisniawati. The Komaneka Keramas is their first beachfront venture, with most of their other properties located in highland Ubud.
Upon arrival we were greeted with a cool scented towel, as well as a selection of refreshing juices and teas to choose from. While the Komaneka Keramas has the feel and finish that you can usually only find from billion dollar mega-luxury hotel chains, it is full of these little personal touches that underline the fact that it’s a small, intimate family owned resort. We were driven to one of the private villas in a golf cart and, in the blink of an eye, ran through the large living room to take a splash in the private plunge pool before even fully unpacking.
It was immediately clear why anyone should make the trip to Keramas beach! As we took in the breathtaking scenery from our infinity pool, we realized that as we looked up and down the beach, we could not see any person (aside from a few surfers), or, in fact, any structure or object created by man! Even though it was the middle of the day, it was quiet. All we could hear were some crickets and a distant frog, or the break of a wave. It’s hard to justify spending much time indoors when this is literally your backyard (Actually, I take that back – once you experience Bali humidity in March, you’ll undoubtedly appreciate the minutes spent indoors, not sweating). But cooling off in a private pool with this view is an easy option and alternative to spending time inside your beautiful villa (with its beautiful view accentuated by floor to ceiling windows and modern amenities, spending time inside is, at times, just as lovely as being outside).
Of course, we had to adventure out of our villa (though theoretically, everything was able to be delivered to our door, so we never really had to see anyone but each other). The grounds were so beautiful, we wanted to see everything the Komaneka had to offer. Did I mention its located on a black sand beach!? I love beaches to begin with but there is something so surreal about a black sand beach. The ocean seemed to be the perfect spot for surfing, and I enjoyed watching the clearly experienced surfers ride the waves. Unlike many other beaches in Bali, this one has yet to become overcrowded, and is not full of tourists.
What better way to cool off after a visit to the beach than an outdoor shower, located next to the Komaneka’s massive olympic sized community pool?
And then dry off laying in a hammock.
My experience at The Komaneka was great, the resort is beautiful – from the architecture; including a bridge built over a working rice field – to the modern and luxurious room, luxury details are everywhere. At times, I felt like I was walking in David Bowie’s Labrynth, on a white marble bridge amongst fantastical flowers. Komaneka is a good and well priced resort for couples looking for romance and solitude and an escape from the tourist scene of Ubud!
