If the answer is yes, Cervo, in Zermatt, Switzerland, must absolutely be your next vacation spot! I grew up in Pa. and skied at resorts nearby, as well as all over the USA and Canada. I am not saying they aren’t great resorts, but Cervo resort is outstanding and although I personally can only talk to you about my experience in winter, I would love to come back in the other seasons for hiking, biking and communing with nature!

First of all skiing/boarding on the Matterhorn is an exhilarating experience like few others! The sheer majestic beauty of the endless mountains, which are both in Switzerland and Italy at the same time, is unique.
Cervo is located right on the Matterhorn and is a ski in -ski out resort. My chalet, as well as all the others, had every amenity one would want inside such as interior fireplace, wraparound balcony with endless panoramic views of snow-capped mountains, mini bar, and a mini kitchen and a bathroom with relaxing bath salts and a lovely dining table for whatever snacks or meals you choose for a pleasurable dining-in experience.

Our chalet had four floors so each guest has his own floor, but we shared a common wellness center consisting of a hot tub, sauna, steam room and a relaxation room replete with coffees, teas and their fabulous dried apple slices. What could be more perfect after hours on the slopes than this?
But before you head to the slopes, eat a hearty breakfast which is included with your accommodation. This breakfast is not ordinary, but extraordinary. Grind your own nuts to make Nutella. Choose from cheese platters, bread, assorted meats, jelly, and drinks. Try their mimosa if you want a little something special to start your day. It’s not just a buffet. Feel free to order omelets, waffles, eggs Benedict or eggs whatever way you wish.
Are you wondering about lugging your equipment around and time to get to the slope? Worry no more. You exit the hotel to the heated lockers, where you keep your equipment, grab it and hop on the amazing rapid exciting train to the top of the mountain and voila! Happy skiing!
Wow, after all the fun and exercise of the morning, I am ready for dinner. Ferdinand restaurant, right on the Cervo property, is amazing. I love to drink in the culture and food of the area wherever I travel, and two Swiss specialties of Raclette and Fondue are mouthwatering at Ferdinand….hungry now just thinking of my wonderful meal of champagne fondue and crunchy, crusty, sourdough bread….an epicurean delight!
Although I personally did not taste the raclette, others were having it and raving to me there were no words to describe how delicious it was. Puro restaurant, the more formal restaurant right on-premises, is also worthy of five stars in my estimation. It’s not just the taste of each morsel, but the presentation and the service too. You will not find better servers and staff in general, than at Cervo. Is this just inborn or does Cervo give courses on hospitality? I felt at home from the moment I opened the door of the reservation desk to each place..apres-ski bar lounge, Puro and Ferdinand.
Although I personally did not taste the raclette, others were having it and raving to me there were no words to describe how delicious it was. Speaking of apres-ski lounge…. think..fun, fresh and friendly! Everyone is friendly and loquacious, eager to unwind and relax after a day on the slopes. There is live music beginning in mid-afternoon throughout the evening. drinks are just right too…not too strong, but not watered down either. Treat yourself to the best truffle fries to accompany your beverages and relax with the prevailing happy vibes all abounding in the fresh mountain air.
If you need a day just to chill and not ski or board, how about letting that inner child out or if you brought your kids then have fun building a snowman….we had so much fun building ours right outside of our chalet … and then went for a fabulous hike in the snow-covered hills.
